Entombment is the interment of human remains in a tomb or crypt. It involves placing a casket or cremation urn in a crypt or columbarium niche within a mausoleum. The crypt or niche is then sealed and a memorial is added. Interment rights are required.
A mausoleum is a large building designed to provide above-ground interment.
Historically, mausoleum entombment was thought to be only for the very wealthy. Community mausoleums have made above-ground burial or entombment an affordable option. Through modern architecture, technology and methods of construction, we have been able to bring one of the world's finest forms of burial to a price where it is comparable or equal to ground interment.
Crypts are designed to hold casketed remains. Following a casket entombment, the crypt is sealed, and a granite front is attached.
There are different kinds of crypts, including:
A columbarium is an arrangement of niches designed to hold urns containing cremated remains. At Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, we have a wide selection of niches including a free-standing columbarium, indoor glass-front niches, niche walls, niche features in our large mausoleums, benches, and a cremation garden.
For outdoor niches, bronze memorials in the form of a nameplate are attached to the granite front of each niche. In addition, ceramic pictures or bronze emblems may be placed on crypt and niche fronts. These emblems and pictures must be ordered and installed through our office. For glass-fronted niches inside our chapel, an engraved nameplate is added to our directory in front of the window.
Mt. Olivet Memorial Park also offers a wide variety of memorial services and products that may be associated with an entombment.
Interment Rights for Entombment
When you purchase interment rights, you purchase the right to designate who may be entombed or interred in the space purchased, as well as the right to place a memorial where permitted. The crypt or urn space itself remains the property and the responsibility of the cemetery. A portion of the purchase price of all interment rights is contributed to our Endowment Care Fund as required by law.
